North Korea says it tested an AI-guided torpedo

North Korea's official news agency said on Oct 17 that a new high-speed, precision-guided torpedo was test-fired underwater on Oct 15.

Tests over five years, North Korea says

180 tests

The agency said artificial intelligence guides the torpedo's target search, and that its propulsion was proven over more than 180 tests in five years.

The test followed the launch of two submarine-launched strategic cruise missiles on Oct 14.

Its heat shield worked

Analysts in South Korea see the tests as a reply to Seoul's hypersonic glide vehicle test on Oct 8, which Pyongyang says may have failed and Seoul's defence ministry says worked.
