Egypt's Sisi says he will leave office in 2030

President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said on Oct 17, at a military academy graduation, that his term ends in 2030 and that the constitution will not be touched.

My term in office ends in 2030 and this is a total given and will not be debated.

— Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, president of Egypt

1,000 doctorate holders

He said the military academy would invite up to 1,000 holders of doctorates, aged 40 to 50, to a 30-month course to train the next generation of leaders.

Background

A 2019 referendum extended presidential terms from four to six years and let Sisi run again; he was re-elected in 2023 and will have served 16 years by 2030.
