Google says it might use Gmail and Photos data to target ads

Google updated its privacy policy on Oct 16. It still says it won't use Drive, Gmail or Photos for ads, unless you make that data available to other Google services that support personalized ads.

Who is affected

Anyone who connected Drive, Gmail or Photos to AI Mode and other Search tools through Personal Intelligence may now see ads based on that content.

Advertisers don't get access to the data or to personal details such as a name or email address. Google won't show ads based on race, sexual orientation, religion or health.

What you can do

You can disconnect apps from Search's Personal Intelligence features, or turn off Personalized Recommendations in the Search Services Personalization settings.
