Pennsylvania will require labels on AI-generated ads

Governor Josh Shapiro signed the Artificial Intelligence Deceptive Advertising Act on Thursday. Any ad significantly modified or generated by AI must carry a label in the same format as the ad.

The rule applies wherever an ad was made, so commercials aired in other states may carry labels if they also air in Pennsylvania.

What we know

  • Covers images, video, audio and text
  • Applies wherever the ad was made

Not yet

  • What counts as “significantly modified”
  • What counts as “evidently fictional”
