Brazil votes in the Lula–Bolsonaro run-off

Bolsonaro

51%

Lula

49%

Two polls published Saturday evening give Flavio Bolsonaro 51 per cent and Lula 49 per cent, within the margin of error.

Lula drew thousands to Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday, while Bolsonaro rallied supporters in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais.

“The people must choose either someone who kisses the national flag or someone who kisses the American flag.”

Why it matters

Bolsonaro, a senator and the son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, led the first round with 47 per cent to Lula's 45. No candidate who trailed after a first round has overturned it in a run-off.
