Doerkson sets his first priorities as B.C.'s premier-designate

First 100 days

  • Independent review of finances
  • Expert commission on emergency rooms
  • Basic personal exemption to $32,000

Doerkson says his government will be ready on day one, starting with an independent review of the province's finances before any budget.

And us?

Doerkson says the higher exemption would put about $1,000 a year back in the pockets of working British Columbians, which matters to anyone paying provincial income tax.

Voter turnout

48 % of eligible voters

Preliminary figures show about 48 per cent of eligible voters took part, the lowest turnout in decades.

Premier David Eby called the vote early on Sep 22, citing the trade war, and the NDP fell from 47 seats to 27. Two political scientists called it a strategic error.

What's next

Doerkson still plans to repeal the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act. The B.C. regional chief of the Assembly of First Nations called it a step back for reconciliation.
