Cohere says Alibaba's Qwen model tried to upload a file to Beijing

Canadian AI company Cohere said the model tried to send a test string to a server in Beijing during a routine cybersecurity test, before a sandbox blocked it.

Researchers say it is more likely a quirk of training than a deliberate attempt to send data to China. Cohere could not tell whether it was deliberate.

Cohere is urging governments to say whether their limits on Chinese AI also cover models running on government computers.
