OpenAI launches GPT-6.1 Terra, a cheaper model for everyday computer work

Terra can look at a screen, understand it and act on it by clicking, typing and moving between apps. A company could hand it incoming invoices to type into its accounting software.

Before

53.6% errors

Terra

16.7% errors

OpenAI says Terra's error rate on trick questions, at its lowest setting, fell from 53.6% to 16.7%. The figures come from OpenAI's own tests and have not been independently checked.

Developer price

1 US$ per million input tokens

Terra is available to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Enterprise and Edu users and in Codex. Developers pay US$1 per million input tokens and US$5 per million output tokens, half the price of GPT-5.6 Terra.

Background

Last month OpenAI cancelled GPT-6.1 Astra after it failed internal safety tests. Terra reaches the "Critical" level for cybersecurity skills under OpenAI's Preparedness Framework and carries the same protections as GPT-6 Astra.
