Carney says Quebec's premier was invited to the Canada-EU summit dinner

Prime Minister Mark Carney says Quebec Premier Paul St-Pierre Plamondon was invited to a dinner on the sidelines of the summit. It partly contradicts the premier's claim that Ottawa offered him only an insignificant role.

"He was invited to the dinner. […] It is his decision to leave an empty chair, again," Carney said after a cabinet meeting in Ottawa on Tuesday.

St-Pierre Plamondon called it a serious lack of respect and said Ottawa would have him "serve shrimp cocktail" instead of speaking. Federal minister Joël Lightbound said the premier was invited to welcome the dignitaries and to dine with the other premiers, an offer Quebec declined.
