Rivian plans to let AI agents from other companies run in its cars

What's next

Founder and CEO RJ Scaringe said Rivian's cars will be able to run agents made by companies such as Anthropic, but gave no date; the company pointed to its AI & Autonomy Day in December.

Rivian's own voice assistant already sends each request to a model in the car or in the cloud, and since May it can reach outside apps such as Google Calendar.

"You wouldn't want an agent to determine, 'hey, it's time to apply the brakes, or time to steer the vehicle.' So anything that's vehicle-level controls are not being handed to an agent."
