At least 69 people died, Castilla-La Mancha's regional president said, the worst rail disaster in Spain since 2013. The transport minister called the order to move the trains again “inexplicable”.

Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez declared national mourning from Thursday. The main rail union, SEMAF, is also holding a 24-hour strike over rail safety.
