Satlyt tests software that shares computing work among satellites
The test, run with the University of Houston on a NASA-funded project, simulated a network of four computers. Only one was a real computer on a spacecraft in orbit; the other three were simulated.
Satellites running Satlyt software
3 satellites
Satlyt's software is already on three satellites in orbit. Founder Rama Afullo says it is a building block toward satellites sharing computing work.
What we know
- Software can plan tasks in orbit
- Results came back to Earth
Not yet
- Work shared across real computers
- Any NASA mission selection
The test showed the software can plan tasks on hardware in orbit. Sharing work among several physical computers still has to be tested, and NASA has not picked it for a mission.
