Riot police were deployed to keep demonstrators out of the court building. Justice Minister Żurek said court president Święczkowski and his deputy should face criminal charges for not allowing judges to adjudicate.
Tusk wrote that restoring the rule of law is our duty. Lawyer Marcin Matczak, a critic of the earlier judicial reforms, said Święczkowski's suspension had no legal basis.
Background
Judges chosen under the previous Law and Justice government were ruled improperly elected by European courts. President Karol Nawrocki has refused to swear in five judges elected by parliament since March.
