The truce began Tuesday morning and is due to end shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday. It is the longest ceasefire since Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022, and neither Kyiv nor Moscow has reported a violation.
A local military source who asked not to be named predicts "it's going to be hell, even worse than before". The officer says Russian forces across the river used the calm to bring in troops and ammunition and to scout Ukrainian positions with drones.
Overnight Russian strikes on energy sites in four regions left hundreds of thousands of families without power, President Volodymyr Zelensky said Sunday. Ukraine hit the Kstovo refinery, according to Ukrainian media, and Moscow-installed authorities in Luhansk report four people killed in Ukrainian strikes.
What's next
US-mediated efforts to end the war are stalled for now. A three-way meeting of the US, Russia and Ukraine is due in November.
