YouTube Music starts labelling AI-generated songs

The new label on the player

AI

An AI label now appears under the song title on the Now Playing screen when a track was made mainly with generative AI, such as a composition and vocals from an AI model. Tapping it explains how the track was made.

YouTube relies on its own detection tools and works with music partners, who can disclose AI use when they upload a song.

How YouTube sorts songs

  • Made entirely with AI
  • Made partly with AI
  • No AI, or minor use like pitch correction

YouTube's guidelines sort songs into three groups: made entirely with AI, made partly with AI, and no AI or only minor use such as pitch correction, which needs no label.

What's next

The rollout began Oct 14 and reaches listeners gradually. The same labels will later come to the main YouTube app.
