Apple tightens App Store rules against 'nudify' AI apps

What changes

Under rules announced Friday, developers must proactively prevent and remove non-consensual sexual images in their apps. Those who fail to put adequate safeguards in place, or do not fix violations after notice, may be removed from the App Store.

The term

bait-and-switch

Apple also clarified a ban on bait-and-switch apps, which add or change features such as nudification after they have been approved.

Nudify apps Apple was ordered to remove in July

13 apps

The change follows criticism after X users made non-consensual sexual deepfakes with Grok earlier this year. In July, a San Francisco city attorney ordered Apple to remove 13 nudify apps, which it said it did.
