Apple tightens App Store rules against AI nudify apps

Apple's updated App Review Guidelines, posted Oct 16, require apps to prevent or remove non-consensual intimate imagery, including images made with AI tools.

The term

nudification app

Nudification apps use a photo supplied by the user to generate explicit images of a real person without their consent.

A new rule, 2.5.19, bans bait-and-switch apps that hide their purpose during review and reveal harmful features only after approval.

Background

In July, the city of San Francisco ordered Apple to remove eight such apps from the App Store.
