Amazon backs a nuclear plant of 12 small reactors in Indiana
Planned capacity
960 megawatts
Amazon is funding a proposed 960-megawatt plant south of Terre Haute, Indiana, on the site of a demolished coal plant, and would be the first to buy its power.
American Electric Power would run the plant, and X-energy would supply 12 of its Xe-100 small modular reactors, connected to the public grid.
What's next
The timeline depends on X-energy's first plant in Texas, where it has yet to break ground and its construction permit is still under federal review.
Amazon and X-energy say they plan to build 5 gigawatts of new nuclear capacity in the US by 2039.
