Meta creates a new class of shares to fund its AI buildout

What Meta will issue

non-voting stock

The new stock carries no vote on company decisions and will be given to existing shareholders as a stock dividend. Trading is set to begin in 2027.

Chief financial officer Susan Li said the shares will "expand our funding tools and give us flexibility to invest behind the unprecedented momentum we're seeing across every part of our business driven by AI."

Third-quarter revenue

64 billion US$

Meta reported US$64 billion in revenue for the third quarter, up 26 per cent from a year earlier, while its costs and expenses rose 68 per cent.

The shares can also pay for acquisitions and employee compensation while keeping the founder's control. Meta expects capital spending of US$135 billion to US$145 billion this year.
