CUPE says more than 5,000 workers, including education program assistants, early childhood educators, bus drivers, janitors and cafeteria workers, may walk out on Monday, Oct 26.

Inclusion Nova Scotia says families of students with disabilities are left to scramble. The Halifax Regional Centre for Education says it is planning so students who need support can attend “reasonably and safely.”

What a strike could mean

  • Some classes move online
  • Bus service suspended in some areas
  • Some pre-primary and after-school programs cancelled

The province says impacts would vary by region, with some classes continuing as normal.

Last wage offer, per the union

The union says the province's last wage offer for most jobs was $1.62 more an hour by the end of a four-year deal. Talks continue Friday, and the province says it has no 48-hour strike notice.
