Budget 2026 will update Canada's immigration levels

The annual immigration levels update will be in Thursday's federal budget, a government source confirmed.

Permanent residents a year

380,000 current target

The current plan admits 380,000 permanent residents a year, plus 140,000 temporary residents getting permanent status through 2026 and 2027.

The government wants temporary residents at 5 per cent of the population; Statistics Canada puts them at 6.7 per cent as of Jul 1.
