The fee applies to most customers across Canada, outside Quebec, from Jan 17, 2027.

Rogers says card processing costs are up nearly 40 per cent since 2020 and now run to about $150 million a year. The fee also applies to the Rogers Bank Mastercard.

How to avoid it

Customers can avoid the fee by paying with a debit card or by direct debit from a bank account.

Rogers also says it is looking for “alternatives” to cover costs after the CRTC banned fees to cancel or change plans. The CRTC says approval is not needed for fees on unregulated services such as most mobile and internet.
