Alcohol seizures rise in Quebec's Far North

Seized this year

1,150 litres of alcohol

Nunavik police seized nearly 1,150 litres of alcohol from January to October 2026, 400 litres more than in all of 2025. Its black-market resale value is estimated at more than $360,000.

Police say alcohol is a factor in the vast majority of violent incidents they handle. They also report a sharp rise in crack and crystal meth use.

“Almost all summer was marked by a staff shortage due to alcohol consumption.”
