Alto would test the country's first high-speed trains east of Ottawa
East of Ottawa
Between Laval and Ottawa
Alto plans a test track east of Ottawa, with trials from 2034, according to documents. Its private partner, Cadence, says the exact location is far too early to say.
Cadence envisions about 60 trains for the 1,000-km Quebec City to Toronto line. They would carry up to 600 passengers at 320 km/h.
Why it is questioned
Transport expert John Gradek questions the need for a test track when a proven train model will be bought. He says a digital model of the whole route would be a better test.
Alto is to unveil a narrower version of its 10-km route before the end of fall. The final route will be known in 2027.
