New Brunswick LGBTQ+ groups ask Ottawa to renew federal funding

The federal LGBTQ+ action plan, worth $100 million, expires in March 2027, and Ottawa has not formally committed to renewing it. The department in charge says the plan is under review.

Alter Acadie says the funding created it, and that it is the only group of its kind for francophone LGBTQ+ people in Atlantic Canada. Its director, Alex Arseneau, says LGBTQ+ organizations are closing every week.

Chroma NB, which opened new premises in Saint John, joined 45 groups in Ottawa in October and asked for $450 million over five years. Its director says the funding built structures the groups could now lose.
