Surgeons in an operating room

Toronto doctors pair robotic surgery with a catheter to treat AFib

Atrial fibrillation, the most common arrhythmia, affects one to two per cent of people and can lead to stroke or heart failure.

Two doctors at St. Michael's Hospital have combined robotic surgery from outside the heart with a catheter procedure inside it, a Canadian first.

Possible long-term success

70-80 per cent

For long-standing persistent AFib, Dr. Paul Angaran says long-term success could reach as high as 70 to 80 per cent.

And us?
