Ontario fines SeatGeek Canada another $22,500 over ticket resales

Above the price cap

$15,000

Total price not shown

$7,500

One fine of $15,000 is for allegedly selling a seat above the resale price limit, and a second of $7,500 for allegedly failing to disclose a ticket's total price.

Background

Ontario's law, in force this year, caps the resale of event tickets at face value. It followed fan complaints over resale prices for Taylor Swift's Eras tour in 2024 and the Toronto Blue Jays' playoff run last year.

Maximum fine for a price-cap violation

250,000 $

The province fined SeatGeek $25,000 in August and StubHub Canada $20,000 in September, and says a price-cap violation can cost up to $250,000.

SeatGeek has said sellers often cannot prove a ticket's original price, and it has asked Ontario to define what counts as acceptable proof.
