Poilievre and other Opposition MPs wrote to Prime Minister Mark Carney asking him to repeal the ban. A Conservative bill to scrap it goes to second reading this week.

The MPs point to a Strathcona Resources plan to ship up to 250,000 barrels of oil a day by rail to Prince Rupert, B.C., for export. It could proceed only if the ban were lifted.

In July, Ottawa promised B.C. to keep the ban “without alteration, suspension, or narrowing of scope.”

Background

Alberta has since proposed a pipeline on a southern route, largely along Trans Mountain, to Delta, B.C. The MPs say they would discuss amendments that let the Prince Rupert project move forward.
