Myles Gray died during an arrest by Vancouver police near the Burnaby boundary on Aug 13, 2015. A 2023 coroner's inquest ruled his death a homicide, a term that does not assign legal blame.

Officers named in the hearing

7 officers

Seven officers face a public hearing called by British Columbia's Police Complaint Commissioner into whether they used unnecessary force. An earlier disciplinary process dismissed the allegations, but was found strangely lopsided.

Const. Eric Birzneck, the first to testify, said Gray seemed impervious to pain and that he never used more force than needed. He denied giving a lopsided account or protecting a fellow officer.

On Friday, Const. Beau Spencer described an unnerving radio call for help from a colleague, and an animalistic roar he heard on the way to the scene.
