U.S. grand jury indicts alleged accomplice in the Tumbler Ridge shooting
A grand jury in Washington state indicted James Bryant, 30, of Bellingham, for conspiracy to murder persons in a foreign country. The charge carries up to life in prison.
What the indictment alleges
- Agreed to record and stream the shooting
- Advised on where to attack and which weapons
- Sent money for a lighter for an explosive
The indictment alleges Bryant agreed to record and broadcast the shooting, advised on where to attack, and sent money for a lighter for an explosive device. The allegations are unproven.
A day before the indictment, U.S. District Judge Mary Alice Theiler ordered Bryant kept in custody, saying no release conditions could satisfy the risks.
Background
Eight people were killed in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, on Feb 10, including five students and an educational assistant. B.C. RCMP say further charges in Canada are possible.
