UCP backbencher Shane Getson quits the Alberta legislature on the eve of the fall sitting

Lac Ste. Anne-Parkland

Alberta, northwest of Edmonton

The two-term United Conservative MLA for Lac Ste. Anne-Parkland, northwest of Edmonton, leaves effective immediately. He has held the seat since 2019 and never served in cabinet.

Getson cites personal and family reasons without elaborating: "I can no longer give the time and attention that I have over the last seven years."

For a time he was the United Conservative caucus whip. He was also known for comments that angered the political left, including one in 2025 comparing transgender surgery to livestock castration.
