An inquest opens into the death of Regis Korchinski-Paquet in Toronto

Korchinski-Paquet, 29, fell from a 24th-floor balcony on May 27, 2020, while police were in her home after calls about a family disturbance that involved knives.

The term

postictal delirium

She had two seizures that morning, and an epilepsy specialist told jurors she had earlier shown patterns of postictal delirium, a state of confusion that can follow a seizure.

Today, we begin this inquest hoping to get answers, understand what happened and help ensure that people experiencing a crisis receive a safe and compassionate response from first responders.
