Ontario plans a change under the Time Act on Nov 1 so that regions west of the 90th meridian can stay on daylight time year-round, Indigenous Affairs Minister Greg Rickford said.

Background

Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew announced last month that his province would stay on daylight time year-round, which left northwestern Ontario, in the central time zone, out of step.

Support in every survey

90 to 94 %

Surveys of municipalities, First Nations and businesses in the region showed 90 to 94 per cent support for permanent daylight time, Rickford said.

Provinces ending the switch

  • Manitoba: daylight time year-round
  • British Columbia: permanent Pacific daylight time
  • Alberta: permanent daylight time

British Columbia said in March it is moving to permanent Pacific daylight time, and Alberta switched to permanent daylight time this year.
