BCE sells a 49.9% stake in its wireless towers to La Caisse for $2.45 billion

Who owns TowerCo

49.9 La Caisse 50.1 Bell

The deal values the new tower company, called TowerCo, at about $4.91 billion. Bell keeps the 50.1 per cent controlling interest.

TowerCo will hold more than 5,000 sites across the country and lease capacity to Bell, its largest customer. It will be based in Montreal and open to all carriers.

BCE chief executive Mirko Bibic says the proceeds will strengthen the balance sheet and fund growth, including AI solutions and data centres. A Scotiabank analyst said the deal does not meaningfully reduce debt.

Background

Telus sold 49.9 per cent of its tower operator to La Caisse last year for $1.26 billion. The BCE deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027, pending regulatory approvals.
