Trump congratulates Paul St-Pierre Plamondon three weeks after Quebec’s election

The US president shared the news on Tuesday on Truth Social, along with an article dated Oct 6 that presented the Parti Québécois’s rise to power as a setback for Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Minutes earlier, Trump had noted the Conservative win of Lorne Doerkson in British Columbia on Saturday, saying Conservatives are making strong gains in Canada.

Background

Weeks ago, billionaire Elon Musk, who is close to the US administration, wrote on X that Quebec would be much better off separating from Canada.

The posts come as Canada and the United States accuse each other of interfering in domestic politics. Last Wednesday, the US embassy in Canada listed what it called attempts by Canadian officials to influence American politics, and Carney’s government dismissed the claim.
