Chow wins a second term and turns to a new deal with Ontario

Chow's margin over Bradford

13 points

Chow beat city councillor Brad Bradford by 13 percentage points, well short of the 25 to 44 points earlier incumbent mayors won by. Bradford had barely one per cent in the previous race.

Chow's agenda

  • Free school lunches
  • A weekly transit fare cap
  • Property taxes near inflation

Chow promised a second term headlined by free school lunches and a weekly transit fare cap, and property taxes at or around the rate of inflation.

What's next

Chow negotiated a 2023 deal for $1.2 billion in operating cash from Ontario that expires this year, and the city puts its 2027 budget shortfall at roughly $1.1 billion.

Premier Doug Ford congratulated Chow and said he will work with anyone to protect communities, companies and people from U.S. tariffs.
