Québec solidaire asks for a ban on winter evictions in Quebec

Age of tenants the moratorium protects

65 and over

Québec solidaire wants the incoming Parti Québécois government to renew, before it ends in June 2027, the moratorium on evicting tenants aged 65 and over. The Legault government adopted the three-year moratorium in 2024.

"Nobody should be thrown out of their home when it is minus 20 degrees, it's common sense."

Parti Québécois seats, out of 127

59 seats

The Parti Québécois holds 59 of the National Assembly's 127 seats and needs at least four opposition members to pass laws. Québec solidaire, with nine, says it is ready to help on housing and homelessness.

What's next

The party also wants premier-designate Paul St-Pierre Plamondon to start work on reforming the voting system once cabinet is named next week. He said he favoured such a reform during the leaders' debate.
