New Brunswick signs a deal to explore an old antimony mine

Toronto-based Avenir Minerals has exclusive rights to explore the former Lake George mine, southwest of Fredericton.

The company has 30 months to study the site for antimony and other critical minerals.

Antimony is mainly used as a flame retardant, and also in solar panels and lead-acid batteries.
The mine operated intermittently from 1876 to 1996. Exploration will likely include drilling and consultation with First Nations.
