Trump congratulates B.C.'s premier-designate as the NDP looks ahead

"Congratulations to Lorne Doerkson on his Big Victory. Conservatives are moving strong in Canada!"

— Donald Trump, on Truth Social

Premier-designate Lorne Doerkson said he does not see himself as a Trump ally and that his loyalty lies with British Columbia. His Conservatives won a commanding majority in Saturday's snap election and will form government for the first time in nearly a century.

David Eby resigned as NDP leader after the loss. NDP MLA Adrian Dix said the party must "listen and learn" and that the 38 per cent who voted NDP want a strong opposition.
