Regina clears the Core Community Park encampment over fire safety

Residents

150 people, for about 3½ months

About 150 people had lived at Core Community Park, also known as Pepsi Park, over the past three and a half months.

Police and fire crews cleared the site after fire officials cited several fires in recent days and a high-risk assessment over the weekend. Residents were given no notice, and some arrived to find their tents and belongings gone.

"I had no idea this was happening until I found out as it had already started."

What's next

Mayor Chad Bachynski says the city is working with the province on a triage or transitional space. Those displaced face colder weather with no site to go to.
