CSIS tries to fix a toxic workplace culture by rebuilding trust

Say senior managers decide effectively and on time

29 %

A staff survey found only 40 per cent of CSIS respondents had confidence in top management, and 29 per cent said senior managers make effective, timely decisions.

Director Dan Rogers admits to morale, red tape, under-resourcing and leadership trust problems. When he visits offices, he meets staff without their bosses in the room and invites them to email him directly.

What CSIS is changing

  • Executives speak directly to staff
  • Culture goals tied to executive bonuses
  • Faster hiring and security clearances
  • 360-degree reviews of every executive

Culture goals now count in executives' performance reviews and bonuses, and every executive gets a 360-degree review.
