Assault charges against Ontario MPP Chris Scott are dropped

Crown prosecutors told an Ontario court Wednesday they are dropping the charges of assault and assault with a weapon against Chris Scott, who represents Sault Ste. Marie. The charges related to an alleged incident on Sep 19, 2025.

“I maintained my innocence throughout, and I am grateful that I can finally put this matter behind me.”

Prosecutors said Scott has finished anger management counselling and has no prior criminal record. A charge against his wife, accused of assaulting him in another incident, was also dropped.

Premier Doug Ford's office said Scott will not return to the Progressive Conservative caucus. He continues to sit as an independent.
