Snapchat faces a jury for the first time in a social media addiction trial
Snap, Snapchat's parent company, must defend itself before a jury over claims its platform is addictive for young people. Instagram owner Meta is also a defendant in the Los Angeles trial, and jury selection began Wednesday.

Arguments are due to open Nov 4 and run until mid-December. Meta's Mark Zuckerberg, Snap's Evan Spiegel and Instagram's Adam Mosseri are expected to testify in mid-November, plaintiffs' lawyers say.

In March, a first Los Angeles jury awarded US$6 million to a 20-year-old woman, finding Meta and YouTube partly negligent. Both companies have appealed.
The plaintiffs target design features such as Snapchat's message streaks and Instagram's likes, not content. Their cases are meant to guide thousands of similar claims, and Snap and Meta can still settle before a verdict.
