'Godzilla' El Niño is set to bring a milder winter to much of Canada

Pacific surface temperature

3.5 °C above average

Pacific surface water has hit 3.5 C above average, against at least 0.5 C in other El Niño years.

B.C., Alberta and the Prairies are likely to see fewer storms and milder weather, but also drier conditions that could hurt the ski season and next year's wildfire season.

Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes should see above-seasonal temperatures and less snow, though bouts of extreme cold will still come.
