Montreal police explain why it took a day to dismantle a unit accused of misconduct

The timeline

  1. March

Police begin investigating after internal complaints

  2. Jun 11

Investigators reach the threshold for action; the unit patrols that night

  3. Jun 12

The unit is dismantled between 8:30 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Police say the unit's 16 officers worked a shift from 9 p.m. on Jun 11 to about 6:30 a.m. the next day. The unit was dismantled that evening.

“Several logistical issues had to be resolved, including replacing the entire team to avoid any interruption of services to the public.”
