A tribunal orders Cogeco to offer more video description on demand

The Canadian Human Rights Tribunal found that Jan Zawilski, 72, who has lost almost all his sight, did not get a service equal to other subscribers'. Cogeco must pay him $17,000 plus $7,000 for pain and suffering.

Share of the catalogue with video description

6 %

Cogeco offered 101 titles with video description in June 2025, about 6 per cent of its on-demand catalogue.

And us?

Cogeco must cut the subscription price for subscribers with a disability, get description from its content providers when it exists, and set a strategy for more. Zawilski is now challenging the CRTC's rules in Quebec Superior Court.
