Hydro-Québec keeps seeking higher data-centre rates despite a court ruling

Quebec Superior Court Justice Élif Oral ruled Monday that the government overstepped when it published two decrees in early 2026 backing higher rates for data centres and cryptocurrency miners.

The judge wrote that the government can express concerns to the energy regulator, but cannot impose an outcome.

What's next

Hydro-Québec is asking the regulator to approve a new, higher data-centre rate and to raise the rate for cryptocurrency mining.
