Heavy rain triggers three landslides on wildfire-burned slopes in Summerland

Rocks, water and debris spilled into a field on a family farm in Garnet Valley on Tuesday. “It was a wall of rocks and water,” owner Marty Campbell said.

Why it matters

Slopes burned in this summer's Bald Range wildfire are more prone to erosion. A B.C. Ministry of Forests report rates the risk to Highway 97 and homes on slopes above it as high.

Sandbags for residents

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen is carrying out geotechnical assessments and giving residents sand and sandbags.
