Quebec farmers call for the high-speed rail project to be scrapped

Farmers and local officials in Repentigny, Quebec, fear the proposed Quebec City-Toronto line would cut through farmland. The regional farmers' union says the project must be stopped.

260+ hectares

Third-generation farmer Guillaume Alary says the line could divide his 260-plus hectares of wheat, corn and soybeans, and that nobody consulted him.

Alto, the federal agency behind the project, says it received 20,000 comments in consultations and wants a route that limits impact on homes and farmland. Bloc Québécois MP Patrick Bonin says he cannot support the project.
