Houston resists legislation for AI data centres as Nova Scotia backlash grows
Planned AI data centre, Point Tupper
10 $ billion
EverWind Fuels plans a $10-billion AI data centre at Point Tupper, Nova Scotia, with the American AI company Anthropic signed to a 20-year lease.
“Do we want to do a piece of legislation for every business that sets up in Nova Scotia? Probably not.”
— Premier Tim Houston
Petition signatures, more than
24,000 signatures
A Change.org petition to stop AI data centres in the province passed 24,000 signatures within two weeks, and opposition parties want legislated rules and an environmental assessment.
